Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday Observed January 19

 

 

The U.S. holiday that commemorates the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is observed this year on January 18.  Dr. King was the acknowledged national leader of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.  He was born on January 15, 1929, and assassinated on April 4, 1968.
